Why do men suffer from hair loss?

There is nothing so worrying to men or women as noticing lumps of hair on the brush or in the bottom of the bath. Baldness may be the one circumstance most dreaded by men, but the psychological damage to women can be worse.

Strangely it was once thought to be linked to mid-life crises, but this thought process has changed as greater numbers of men in their twenties have suffered male hair loss. The reasons and causes are numerous, and the effects can lead to loss of self-esteem and confidence. It is advisable for everyone to increase their knowledge of hair loss and to prepare themselves to deal with it when it happens.

Hair growth is normally cyclical pattern over 2 to 6 years, some hair grows whist some is ‘resting’ and others fall out. It is perfectly natural to allow for the germination of new hair, but if this happens too much then it becomes unnatural.

Hair loss is perhaps most commonly seen when their is an imbalance of hormones due to a problem with the thyroid gland. Androgen imbalance in the body due to overactive thyroid glands can cause hair loss in men. Underactive thyroid glands can often produce the same devastating effects in some people.

Certain medicines can also be responsible for the cause of thinning hair. If you are using anticoagulants for thinning the blood, medicine to alleviate gout, chemotherapy or an excessive use of vitamin A, all these can lead to the thinning hair. There are some hair loss products on the market that can help ot aleviate the problem, and noticably reduce the amount of thinning.

Alopecia Universalis often arrives without any warning or obvious signs of trouble. Symptoms can reveal themselves in small areas of missing hair on the scalp. When i had a beard a number of years ago, I saw a small patch of hair loss which grew larger over the space of a few months. It was funny at first, then it became a bit of an irritation, and finally I felt the beard had to be shaved off as it was noticable. Many suffering like in the example usually suffer temporarily as a full recovery of the damaged area is normal. But if it doesn’t recover within a few months, it could mean permanent damage has occurred.
