Advice on Aural Rehab recommendations?
I am an SLP student working on my first Aural Rehab plan. I have been studying all semester, and it’s cool to try and come up with a plan for a patient.
My professor gave me an audiogram that shows a bilateral severe to severe to profound loss on a 25 year old female. Her SRT is 75 for both ears, but the professor notes that she does well with hearing aids.
Recommendations I was thinking of were for college are: notetaker, fm system. Other recommendations: blue tooth compatible for aid, telephone amplifier, pillow alarm, this device that i found that amplifies ringing of a phone and doorbell, TV listening system…

You have come up with some great suggestions. Additional information – most colleges have an office of disabilities that serves students with disabilities. It is great to enroll in that if you have a disability. I have hearing loss and enrolling with office of disabilities got me priority registration for classes. This was great because as a freshman you usually have to wait until the seniors/juniors/sophomores have picked out the classes they want then you can register. With priority registration you can register on the first day regardless of what year you are. The idea for hearing loss is so that you can get into the smaller class sizes versus a lecture hall with 200-500 students in it. As an added bonus the classes I wanted to take were never full!
Another suggestion is seating in the front of the room. For telephone someone with that severe of a loss may need a TTY or Captel or need to use a relay service. Some TV systems don’t work with hearing aids. Closed Captioning is a great tool. In addition this person may be a candidate for cochlear implant even though they do well with hearing aids, the implant is far superior for severe to profound loss.
